Garth Pig learns to be cautious the hard way, when the ice cream lady turns out to be a wolf, intent on eating him. Bummer for Garth, but a pure joy for readers, who get to see, among other things, pigs riding a tandem bike and some really delicious looking ice cream/5.

Of the books we own, Garth Pig and the Ice Cream Lady is my favorite. I do not become weary of reading this enchanting, and very funny story to little listeners. Just the right tension, and, of course, a happy ending for young Garth make the story pitch perfect. (readers will want an ice cream afterward)/5(17).

The book is a very entertaining story centering on young Garth Pig, who is lured away by a seemingly friendly ice cream van lady (really a wolf in disguise!). On one level it's a thrilling story to read (will he escape, will his family rescue him?) on another it's a great way to teach young kids about being wary of strangers, however kindly and /5(3).

I love that it uses the pigs and a wolf because it reminds you of The Three Little Pigs. The main part I would focus the most on would be where Garth the pig gets into the ice cream truck to look at the ice cream/5(3).

Little do they know the fate awaiting their brother Garth when he is sent to fetch nine whooshes from Madame Lupino. Garth Pig and the Ice-Cream Lady by Mary Rayner (£, Macmillan Children's Books) This is a thrilling, entertaining book. One hot day, while Mrs Pig is scrubbing the kitchen floor, a sinister wolf disguised as an ice cream lady (called Mrs Lupino) lures greedy, unsuspecting Garth Pig into her van and plans to eat him ‘fried or boiled, baked or roast or minced with mushey-rooms on toast’.

There were little pigs who wanted ice cream. A wolf was disguised as the ice cream man. I dug deep into the Internet to find it—actually, I simply Googled “pigs,” “wolf,” and “ice cream,” and there it was. Published in by Mary Rayner, this book is about a pig who climbs into the back of the ice cream truck and gets kidnapped.
